Today my little man had to have surgery. I was hesitant to share with friends on facebook about what type of surgery it was because I felt that maybe I was worrying for no reason and that others would think I was being a baby. Days after Braeden was born he noticed that his circumcision was not healing right. When he was five days old we went to a Pediatric Urologist. Since then we have been going back monthly for checkups and about two months ago we discovered that the scar tissue that had formed around his penis was not going away and if not taken care of could eventually cut off circulation. There were also a few other things that needed to be "re-positioned".
So today was the day of the surgery. We got to the surgery center bright and early and Braeden was such a trooper. He looked so cute in his little yellow hospital gown and socks (although I would prefer he never need to wear those again). We talked with the nurse, another nurse, the anesthesiologist and the Dr. Needless to say my anxiety was through the roof. Hearing them talk about putting him under had me so freaked out. I know people do it all the time but not my little man. I think I have watched too many medical dramas on TV and I think of the worst case scenario. He was taken back by the nurse to begin the procedure. Thank goodness I had my husband and my mom. They made the waiting so much easier.
After an hour or so the Dr. came out to update us. He said Braeden did great and his goods look great! We were then taken back to the recovery room where a nurse was rocking him. When I saw his little face I almost lost it. His eyes were so red and puffy from a combination of the anesthesia, crying and being tired. I took him in my arms and he was crying so loud. The nurses said they love to hear him cry because that means he is taking deep breaths and getting all the medication out of his lungs. Even though they said they love hearing it, no mommy ever wants to hear her baby crying like that. It took about 10-15 minutes to get him calmed down and then he slept on me for about an hour while they monitored him. Finally they said we could go home. It was as if Braeden knew he was going to go home and everything was good. He started smiling at all the nurses and keep cuddling up to me. He is such a strong boy and has been doing great all day long!
Just because his surgery was not the most serious surgery out there, it was still surgery. I still worried about anything bad happening to the best part of me. Braeden is by far the best thing in my life and I do not ever want him to be in any pain. I am so glad it is over and I am so thankful for the friends and family who were supportive during this time. Hopefully the recovery continues to be this easy and my little man is back to himself in no time!
